CCA News -July 2008

The busy summer season is here! We hope that your summer plans include some rest and relaxation as well as some interesting artistic, cultural and musical activities.

Thanks to everyone who attended our June CCA events - the Chamber Music Concert, the Water Heritage Festival, Music at the Dock, the Robert Wise Film Festival and, of course, the 2nd Saturday Art Stroll. Seemed like there was something for everyone in the mix. Check out the photos of all of these events on the CCA web site!

July is a busy month on the Island with the Chincoteague Fireman’s Carnival (beginning July 3), the annual Pony Swim and Auction (July 29 & 30) and the Chincoteague Blueberry Festival (July 25-27).  In addition, CCA sponsors the monthly 2nd Saturday Art Stroll on Saturday, July 12. A variety of artistic and cultural events will take place in participating shops, galleries and museums from 6:00 – 10:00pm. Three daytime events this month include a demonstration and exhibit by the Chincoteague Decoy and Carvers Association at the Robert Reed Waterfront Park from 3:00 – 7:00pm, demonstrations of metalsmithing and soapmaking by Marianne and Jim Warren at the Oyster and Maritime Museum. At Egret Moon Artworks, Polly and Theresa will be making mosaics all day and evening.

During the evening, look for demonstrations and exhibits of painting, writing, basket-making, metalsmithing, soapmaking and ceramics, wine-tasting and other treats as well as several varieties of music. For a full listing of the evening events, check the CCA web site or pick up an InfoMap at participating shops as well as local restaurants, lodging and the Chincoteague Chamber.

New! CCA Member events on the web site. Many of our CCA member shops, galleries and museums host artistic and cultural events on dates other than the 2nd Saturday Art Stroll. Click on the Member Events button on the web site to see what’s happening throughout the month.

Coming in August, CCA sponsors a Music at the Dock concert with the Sweet Adeleines on Saturday, August 17 at 4:00pm in the Robert Reed Waterfront Park as well and the August 2nd Saturday Art Stroll on August 9.
