Pony Pins Support Scholarships
Encourage a local student-artist! The Chincoteague Cultural Alliance awards three scholarships annually to Chincoteague High School graduates who demonstrate artistic talent. The scholarships are awarded to students who excell in visual arts, drama and music. Funds to support the scholarships are raised annually through collection cans/tip jars in various CCA member shops, at CCA events and through the sales of the pony pins. Thanks to the support from donors, three scholarships of $500 each were awarded at the 2009 graduation ceremony.
Jim Warren, a local jeweler and metalsmith from Parksley, VA, designs and makes the pins. The 2009 pins are gold plated and, for the first time this year, you can choose between a pin or a necklace. The necklace comes with a black cord.
Pony Pins can also be purchased in various shops on Chincoteague Island for $10 each, including Island Cottage Collection, Wine, Cheese & More, Sundial Books, Island Butterfly, Island Arts, Kite Koop and Egret Moon Artworks. The $14 online price includes shipping and handling.
