Image Technical Requirements

File Format:  JPEG.   Highest quality setting

Image Size:  Suggested minimum resolution is 1600x2400, the larger the better since the  winning images will be displayed on a large video screen.

Cropping: Images may be cropped but should meet the resolution requirement above and have an aspect ratio of 4:5, 3:4, or 2:3. Standard cameras produce a 2:3 ratio.

Media: Contest entries can be submitted on a standard CD-ROM, USB compatible media, or directly from a digital camera using a USB cable (you should bring your cable.)

File Names:  Contest entries will be given a unique file name and number by the judges at the time of entry. Contestant information will be kept separate from the actual image to insure blind judging.

Image Modification or Manipulation

All images must be taken on June 24 or June 25

Images may be touched up on your computer but this is a low key event. Modifications should not be made that violate the spirit of the contest.  Some entrants will be on the
Island with only a camera and will enter images directly from the camera.

We would hope that most of your time will be spent out taking photographs and as little time as possible spent using PhotoShop on your computer.

If you have any doubt about using a modification technique please assume that it is not allowed.

Cropping: Cropping is allowed as long as the result meets the requirements mentioned earlier.

Brightness and Contrast:  These adjustments are permitted, provided they are applied to the entire image.

Rotation: Rotating the image is allowed, including to level a horizon or other aspects of the image.

Spot Retouching:  Rubber Stamp or Clone tools may be used to remove spots from dust on the sensor.  They may not be used to alter features in the photograph.

Sharpening:  Sharpening tools may be used as long as they are used on the entire image.
