The Chincoteague Cultural Alliance invites photographers to “Give Us Your Best Shot” for a chance to win cash prizes. The Fifth Annual Contest, titled “A Week in the Life of the Islands” will accept photos taken on Chincoteague or Assateague between September 28 and October 5.
Photographers of all abilities and sensibilities are invited to interpret the spirit of Assateague and Chincoteague, the land and its people. Photos must be taken between September 28 and October 5 and submitted from 1-4 pm Oct. 5 at CCA, 6309 Church Street

Photo Contest Workshop
7 p.m. Saturday, September 28
Contest judges will show and talk about their work, offer photo tips and answer questions at the CCA World Headquarters, 6309 Church St.
$10 or free to registered contestants (you can register onsite before the workshop or online before noon the day of the workshop). Bring your camera!
If you wish to attend the workshop but do not plan on participating in the Photo Contest, you may pay for the workshop at the door. The fee is $10. The workshop begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 28 at CCA World Headquarters located at 6309 Church Street.
Categories: Photographs can be entered in two categories:
• Main Street (involving the subject in any way)
• Everything Else
Prizes - Adults
• 1st Pace winner will receive $100
• 2nd Place winner will receive $50.
• 3rd Place winnter will receive $30
• $100 Best Photo by a First-Time WInner
Prizes – Youth for ages 12 and under AND 13 - 18
• 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place winners will receive gift certificates from the Island Creamery.
Technical Requirements and Submission
Entries, in high quality digital format, must be submitted on Saturday, October 5 between 1 and 4 PM. Please carefully read the contest rules for technical details about submitting photos. Click here to read the rules.
Prizes Awarded & Critique of Winners
At 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 5 the prizes will be awarded followed by the ever popular commentary by the judges. Both entry submission and awards take place at the World Wide Headquarters of the Chincoteague Cultural Alliance at 6309 Church Street in Chincoteague. Judges commentary and awards ceremony are open to the public and free.
Adults, $20 covers submission of two (2) photos, additional entries are $10 each.
Children 18 and under enter free.
The photo contest judges are John Beam, professional artist and instructor for 27 years at the Maryland Institute College of Art; Chincoteague photographer Bob Conklin; and Jim Dayton, a lifelong amateur photographer involved in wildlife research and development of tracking technology for the past 17 years, and CCA’s official photographer.

• Step 2: Register online or send a check for $20 to CCA, PO Box 257, Chincoteague, VA 23336. There is no fee for children under 12 but they still need to register. Onsite registration is available from 1- 4 pm on Saturday, October 5 when photos are submitted or on Saturday, September 28 at the Photo Contest Workshop.
